• Local Storage with localForage

    Over the past several months, I have been working on a project that provides scheduling, invoicing and payroll for a small contracting firm. Cost constraints dictate a responsive web app versus native apps – at least for now. Schedule creation and manipulation and payroll are pretty much handled in an office environment with a reliable web connection but clocking of hours and invoicing can happen either in the office or in the field. The geographical reach of this firm made it almost certain that mobile users would find themselves without a reliable internet connection much of the time.

  • Jekyll… Beyond

    After playing with Jekyll for a couple of weeks, I felt it was time to push beyond my installation and try setting it up on a VPS. I already have multiple apps running at Digital Ocean so they were the natural choice for this exercise.

  • Jekyll... First Impressions

    After ignoring my personal site for the better part of the last six months, I finally upgraded from hardcoded HTML to the Jekyll static site generator. The transition is ongoing as I’ve not yet really added any styling to the site but the mechanical elements are up and running. What follows is a review of some of the difficulties that I had in getting the site up and running on Github Pages along with the solutions that I discovered.
